Week 5 Assignment 3

Flavorpill's 30 Most Anticipated Books of 2013

Wise Men

With bigots, racist, rich and poor as well as being a period piece if you liked the Help this book might appeal to you.

Week 5 Assignment 2 Early Word

What came first the chicken or the egg, the book or the movie? Hunger Games the movie and Twilight the movie created a great deal of interest for the book. I think it was just the opposite for Harry Potter.

Early reviews on upcoming books to movies such as Mortal Instruments: City of Bones can spark interest in the book. Very nice feature at Early Word

Week 5 Assignment 1 NPR & Street Fiction

I did not know that NPR has a Bestsellers List. I don't think that I have every been asked for it, but it's nice to know that they have it.

The Street Fiction site allows users to link to OCLC. I thought that was a nice service. There are also links to library systems that offer book list for Urban Fiction. I thought that was also a nice touch.

Week 4 Assigment 1

Hi Becky,

Thanks for being my friend. I looked and I looked for a book just for you. And here is what I found.

You might want to try The Almost Archer Sisters. From the review I read it seems like a life is not what you thought it was book.

Hi Lori,

Thanks for being my friend. I looked and I looked for a book just for you. And here is what I found.

You might want to try The Perfect Man by Naeem Murr. From the review there seems to be strong relationships, but always more than meets the eye.

Hi Kate,

Thanks for being my friend. I looked and I looked for a book just for you. And here is what I found.

I read a review for a book entitled Summons to Memphis by Peter Taylor. It seems to have some of the same elements...the rich, the heartbroken, those who want to move on and those that can't let go.

Week 3 Conversation 3

I have a book that I think you will like. Endurance is the story of  Ernest Shackleton who set sail aboard the ship named Endurance. They were headed to the Antarctic, but Endurance became trapped in ice and permanently crippled. For months Shackleton and his crew survived on drifting ice before they were finally able to set sail in one of the ship's lifeboats.

Week 3 Conversation 2

Well, I have not read any good vampire books...so let's take a look at Novelist or Goodreads they may have a few good titles. Have you ever read the one that started it all?

Week 3 Conversation 1

Week 2 Assignment 2

A couple of recent titles I enjoyed:

L.A. 56 is a fast paced true crime police story that reads like a noir classic. Writer Joel Engel paints a dark picture of a sadistic rapist and racist’s cops that even James Ellroy can’t pen in his fiction. The year is 1956 and there have been a rash of rapes in predominately white areas in and around L.A. The victims are white, the perpetrator is black and to make matters worst he’s posing as a cop. White officers have made up their minds that a former black police officer is the culprit. But one good cop, Detective Galindo who worked the Black Dahlia murder case, is determined to get at the truth.

Most Wanted is the first person account of Massachusetts’s State Police Col. Thomas Foley who spent nearly twenty years of his career trying to capture the most wanted man in America. From the late 50’s through the early 1990’s Irish gangster Whitey Bulger was the most vicious and violent gangster in Boston history. He was feared by politicians, the Mafia and law enforcement alike. After more than a decade on the run Whitey Bulger was finally captured by the FBI. But Col. Foley knew the painful truth. The FBI may have captured him, but it was the FBI that gave him a license to kill and shielded him at every turn for years.
