I must say that I was not surprised by the number of adults who buy teen books. The storylines in these books are often pretty compelling, yet (as the article said) written in a simpler fashion than adult fiction. And also as the article said if a book is well written it will appeal to everyone. I think it's a trend that will continue for sometime to come.
The packaging (Book Cover) is a huge appeal factor. It's important to grab the readers attention with something that is gender neutral and age neutral. Book covers can go a long way in grabbing the readers attention and selling the item if the art is done right.
As for paranormal fatigue, I'm not buying it. When people get bored with
vampires they'll move on to werewolves, warlocks or Bigfoot.
I wonder if Becky L or Rox's will see my comments?
Yes, it is amazing to actually see or track who is buying teen books. We do alot of sharing in the library of who is reading, however, when you have a friend that works in Barnes & Nobles, then you can get statistics of who is actually buying. According to staff in the bookstore, not just teens are buying teen books. Lots of adult are partcipating in this purchase!
